Project Overview

This project is designed to further develop your understanding of the particular artistic, professional and vocational skills necessary for progression within a chosen discipline. The unit provides an opportunity for you to critically examine your own strengths and capabilities in relation to a range of music performance and production activities, and to define your emerging ambitions and longer‐term goals, either within employment or Higher Education.

In this project you will address the following assessment criteria:

1.1 - Identify and select appropriate techniques to develop ideas

1.2 - Demonstrate practical, technical and theoretical understanding.

2.1 - Use critical and contextual approaches to inform ideas.

2.2 - Use Knowledge to plan and develop ideas for a specified activity.

3.1 - Effectively prepare and present yourselves and your own work to a specified audience.

4.1 - Use advice and guidance to improve own learning.

4.2 - Critically reflect and evaluate own progress and performance.

The Context

You will be preparing the release of a digital single to coincide with a performance showcase. 

You will be developing skills in music composition, recording, mixing, mastering, and presenting yourselves to an audience. 

The composition will be released as a single through an appropriate streaming service. 

The performance will take place as part of the Christmas Show in the final week of term.

Tasks & Evidence

Task 1 - Project Proposal - PowerPoint Presentation

Produce a project proposal for the development of your ideas for the composition ,recording, and distribution of your music.

Your presentation should  address the following questions:

  • What genre are you going to compose in and why? 

  • Who are your two main influencers of that genre?

  • Identify three aspects of each influencers approach which you find inspiring

  • Which of these approaches will you try to use for your own composition and recording process?

  • Are there any approaches by these influencers you wouldn't use and why?

  • Which platform will you use to release your song?

Task 2 - Research for the  Recording Process

  • What are the musical elements of your composition?

  • Describe how you will record these elements. You will need to research mic type and placement for all instruments used as well as information on amps and tones.

  • Create a Logic Pro session ready to record. This should include tempo information, arrangement (structure), and the correct amount of labelled tracks

  • List your band members and production crew with job roles.

Task 3 - Practical Evidence 

On your WIX you should create a page that documents your creative journey leading to the final recording process. This should include videos, soundbites, text, images and your final recording.

Your practical evidence should include the following:

  • Lyric sheets with chord charts.

  • Scratch recordings of the songs and any changes made.

  • Annotated images explaining the recording process. (Mic choice, mic placement,  number of channels used etc).

  • Get feedback from your Tutor and at least two other people about  your mix.

  • Make changes to your mix based on feedback. Document these changes.

Practical evidence clearly labelled and displayed on WIX.

Include references to any research.

Task 4 - Showcase of Single

This task requires you to do the following:

  • Present the single in a showcase event

Evidence Required

  • Video of performance labelled and uploaded to WIX.

3.1 Effectively prepare and present themselves and their own work to a specified audience.

 

 

 

Task 6 - Final Evaluation (800 words) 

Complete a written evaluation that clearly addressed your own performance, your management of the project, how you fulfilled your original plan, and how you problem solved across the duration of the project.

 

 

Evidence Required 

Document fully visible and clearly labelled on WIX. (Do not include links to download document).
